Our Projects
Our projects at Hearo Foundation go beyond teaching skills. We're all about building connections, preserving traditions, and strengthening our community. From music and woodworking to cultural practices and even construction, each project brings people together to create, share, and grow.

Ukulele Building
We offer students the unique opportunity to assemble and finish their very own ukulele. It is a hands-on experience that blends craftsmanship, creativity, and music.
Participants start with a baseline set of materials and go through the full process of shaping their instrument. This includes assembly, sanding, refining, customization & and inlay work.
But the experience doesn’t stop there! Once their ukulele is built, students also get the chance to learn to play a song. This culminates in a special performance for their family and friends. It’s a journey from that allows them to take home not just a beautiful handmade instrument, but a new skill and sense of accomplishment.

Partner with Us!
We would love to collaborate with schools, programs, and organizations to bring this hands-on learning experience to more keiki and students. If you’re interested in partnering with us to provide this opportunity, let’s connect!
Traditional Samoan Umu
The umu is a traditional above-ground oven of hot rocks, a special method of cooking food in Samoan culture. Food is significant to the Samoan way of life. More than just a way to prepare food, the umu represents family, culture, and togetherness. It is a communal experience where people gather to work, share, and celebrate.
We offer opportunities to take part in the full umu experience, from the comprehensive preparation to the shared meal. This includes prepping all the ingredients, such as peeling the taro and breadfruit, then building the umu with hot stones, coconut husks and leaves, and finally sharing the meal together by embracing the spirit of Faʻa Samoa (the Samoan way).
We invite you to be part of this living tradition and would love if you wanted to learn, teach, or bring this experience to your community.

Woodworking & Carpentry
Woodworking and carpentry are more than just skills, but they are opportunities to create, problem-solve, and give back to the community. We provide a hands-on learning environment where participants of all ages can develop practical knowledge while working on meaningful projects. Whether it’s constructing railings for the Fale, repairing structures, or learning essential building techniques, each project is rooted in teamwork with a purpose.
These project requires measuring, cutting, sanding, and assembling materials using both hand and power tools. After being guided through the entire building process, from planning and preparation to refining and finishing the work, there is a sense of pride seeing a completed structure that you’ve helped build.
